ByLwansta Talks Commercial Music, Interracial Relationships And Being Known As An Internet Rapper

In the wake of releasing is latest musical project “Your Absolutely Right EP”, ByLwansta sat down for an interview with Slikouronlife.

In the interview, the “Lindiwe” rapper talked about how the term commercial is becoming a style of music compared to when it was only used when a song or album did well commercially like selling more copies.

“These days there's a blueprint and guidelines for this formula, written in some of our favorite songs,” the rapper says. “So for me I don't have a problem with that music. I just feel like I want people to appreciate what I have to offer opposed to just liking a song...that's probably a copy and paste of something else...I just want to stand for something.”

ByLwansta also said that being in a relationship more especially an interracial relationship inspired some songs on the project. For example on “Indian Ocean” the rapper sings about finding happiness. On “Grey” which samples Outkast’s “Ms Jackson” features his brother Kimosabe, the “Came, Saw, Conquered” rapper apologizes to his mother in law for not being the guy (shade) she had imagined for her daughter.

On being seen as an internet rapper, ByLwansta said, “The internet has been incredibly good to me though, with regard to lessons and different avenues, so, the negativity that comes with the title "internet rapper" comes from the outside, but based on the number of times I've rocked a mic, I couldn't possibly just be an internet rapper.”
