Jidenna Talks Coming Back To Nigeria, Working With Wizkid and Rise Of Afrobeat




US pop singer Jidenna who is currently in Nigeria spoke to Pulse Nigeria in an interview about being excited about coming back to his birth country. 

“I haven’t been back while the cameras are here, so it’s cool,” he says. “It’s great. I think the biggest thing for me is just being back. Each time I come back to Lagos, I get to see the new developments, the new malls, the new spots, so I’m excited to go out and just be around.”

The singer also spoke about having the same working process as Wizkid while in studio and how they worked on each others' albums giving a hint about the sound that we should expect on Star Boy’s album.

“I love working with him. He like I, has a profound sense of duty to not just Nigeria, but the African continent,” the “Classic Man hit maker said. “He was very focused, and his new album sounds like East Africa, West Africa, South Africa, North Africa, and even Central Africa. He has different sounds, and I love that about him.”

Jidenna whose latest album has Afrobeat inspired singles on it said that the style of music is the beginning of a larger movement for Africa which will bring it respect, spotlight and be appreciated.

Some of the songs on Jidenna’s “Long Live The Chief” album were debuted in Africa yesterday (September 1) at Hard Rock Café, Lagos.
